The Reader

"I didn't like the way i look, the way i dressed and how i moved, what i acheived and what i felt i was worth. But there was so much energy in me, such belief that one day i'd be handsomeand clever and superior and admired, such anticipation when i meet new people and new situations. Is that what makes me sad? The eagerness and belief that filled me then and exacted a pledge from life that life could never fufil?"

When we open ourselves
you yourself to me and i myself to you,
when we submerge
you into me and i into you
when we vanish
you into me,and into you i
Then
am i me
and you are you

From The Reader. It's a rather nice book.

CNY had been okay, i wouldn't call it fun but yeap it was okay. I'm looking forward to this weekend because of all the house visiting of friends. I think ive been having fun nowadays. Relaxed kind of fun.

CNY Screen Actors Guild Awards Red Carpet

Yes, i woke up at 5am to await the SAG awards red carpet even on CNY day 1. However, it was worth it. The stars shone as brightly as ever and of course there were hits and misses. Newcomers knocking down Red Carpet Veterans, Angelina wraps herself with a towel and a battle between 3 housewives. Here are my thoughts about the 2009 SAG's red carpet.

Viola Davis, Amy Poehler, Christina Applegate & Penelope Cruz. Viola's dress looks good on tv, the colour of the dress is just stunning and the cut of the dress suited her very well. Amy is still spotting a post baby bod here with simple(usually here)empire dress, I like her. Always more of a miss then a hit, Christina Applegate looks like she could use a better stylist if she even has one. Her earrings are too much, dont like the dress and she still looks like a newbie. Penelope was one of the most beautiful woman on the carpet and i like how she matched her earrings and ring.

Emily Blunt, Taraji. P.Henson, Tina Fey and Jenna Fischer. Emily looks okay, i think she has a thing for glitters. Taraji looks absolutely stunning. Love the hair, love the dress and how it fits her body. And you should see the way she poses, that woman has got talent. Tina Fey was one of the very few who opted for the shorter dresses. She was caught pulling her dress up after she stepped out of the limo and man, did she waved and posed while doing so. God bless this woman. I like the colour of Jenna's dress but i dont really like the way the dress ends. It looks unfinished and unglam.

Anne Hathaway, Kate Winsley & Angelina Jolie. And the winner for "Not Appreciating the chance to walk on a red carpet" goes to Angelina Jolie. If you've seen her dress during the Golden Globes, you'll be thinking. My, she must really love the dress because she actually ordered 2 of the same dress in different materials and wore both of them to the red carpet! Gosh, are you seriously going to fade away from Hollywood as the hot girl who went not? Anne Hathaway looks good. She chose the dress that makes a statement yet doesn't go over the top. Kate Winslet stole the show when she stepped out of the limo. Dressed in a fitted blue gown with a neckline that says: Look at my Globes!, Kate Winslet absolutely looks like Hollywood Royalty with a tinge of Old Hollywood Glam.

Eva Longoria, Teri Hatcher and Nicolette Sheridan. For most other actresses, award shows are shows where they compete to see who takes home the award but for the cast of the once big hit Desperate Housewives, what really matters is who takes down the rest and shines like a star. The claws come out and the fans decide. Eva Longoria looks okay, with a peachy dress that seems to be making her look 10 years older and i really dont like her hair. Teri Hatcher actually looks stunning. I really really love her dress and i would say its one of my top favourite dresses of the day. It's very Teri Hatcher, it's attention grabbing. Now, i actually think Nicolette's dress is rather nice, i like the colour and how the fabric drapes over her body making her look wow wow wee. However, i just dont think she can pull the one-shouldered dress kind of look. Good try though. So, the housewife that managed to climb the glamour ladder today was, Teri Hatcher.

Evan Rachel Wood looks glam and nice, not much to say about the dress though but i love her hair. America Ferrera proves once again why she is Ugly Betty, Her dress fits nicely and the colour was okay but once she turns around, there's a patch of black "stuff" stuck on her butt. Not very nice.

Alright, that's all for now because i can't locate the other photos and i remember i have to comment on the very disastrous outfit of Marisa Tomei and there's the "Mini Charlize Theron" look pulled by Melissa Leo. Now, my mum is hurrying me to get changed and it's ang bao time! :) Winners to be announced later.

Hello Oscar Nominees!

Today has been an exciting day. Finally the list has arrived. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button leads with 13 nominations, followed by Slumdog Millionaire with 10 while box office king The Dark Knight follows with 8.

Now, Let's start with the best actress category, my personal favourite. Anne Hathaway, an expected lock for a nomination for her turn as the black sheep sister in Rachel Getting Married. I'm happy about this one. Angelina Jolie gave many critics slaps on their faces by slotting herself conveniently into this year's race after missing out on many awards for her role as a mother who got the wrong son. Another black horse running fast is Melissa Leo in Frozen River. Now, Melissa like Angelina were what many critics and award predictors deemed as longshots after Kristin Scott Thomas and Sally Hawkins, however, they managed to claw their way through to get seated nicely on top. Well done! Meryl Streep, who held the record for most nominations(14) by an actor has just outrun herself with a total of 15 nominations to date with her turn as the nun who goes all out to make sure the priest who molested a child gets his punishment. Last but not least, Oscar surprised nearly everyone (not me) when Kate Winset was announced in the Best Actress category for not Revolutionary Road but The Reader even though she was pushed as a supporting for that role.

Best Supporting Actress: Amy Adams for her role as a naive nun in Doubt. This is supposed to be the race for Kate and Penelope Cruz but now that Kate is out, we're sure who is the frontrunner in the race. Penelope Cruz for her role as a tempestous ex-wife in Woody Allen's Vicky Christina Barcelona. Viola Davis as the mother of the molested child in Doubt. Taraji P. Henson as a loving adoptive parent in The Curious Case for Benjamin Button. Making the 5th slot is actress Marisa Tomei who plays a stripper in the movie The Wrestler.

Best Actor: Richard Jenkins who was the early favourite went into the quiet zone during Golden Globe, Bafta, Critics and everything letting stars like Leonardo Dicaprio and Clint Eastwood to get the oscar buzz. However, he proves that quality is all that matters by knocking out the 2 heavyweights and earned himself a rightful spot in the top 5. Hollywood favourite Sean Penn's name being read out was like hearing Paris Hilton's name on E! Entertainment. There was nothing surprising to see him get nominated for his portrayal as the wonderful gay activist Harvey Milk in Milk. Frank Langella is a Tony Award winner vying for an Oscar. Many have said that this tony award winning role is the last chance for Frank to win an Oscar. Brad Pitt is also being nominated for his best to date role as the guy who aged backwards and learning about love and death. Critic's favourite Mickey Rourke is giving Sean a run for his money as being the forseen 5th nominee in this category after giving somewhat his best performance in a hollywood comeback story. Look out for him.

Best Supporting Actor: Josh Brolin is nominated for his role as the man who kinda didnt "like" Harvey Milk in Milk. Robert Downey Junior is nominated for a role where he is a dude who is disguised as a dude to act as another dude in Tropic Thunder. Academy Award favourite Phillip Seymour Hoffman is also nominated for his turn as the Priest who is being accused of molesting a boy in Doubt. Having to fight with Meryl Streep on screen and not look like a idiot is tough work, besides, this heavyweight was the winner of Best Actor in 2006. Heath Ledger, the name that everyone (me) would not be happy to not hear his name being announced in the nominee list. Having won the Golden Globe already for his portrayal as The Joker, Heath joins the ranks of being the 7th posthumus nominated actor. Only one has won till date. Here is an interesting one, Michael Shannon who portrayed a mentalist in Revolutionary Road was oversee-ed by many voters in the early season. Names like Tom Cruise, and Ralph Fiennes hogged the awards season with the other 4 previously named but Shannon proves to be a star to be watched.
Right that's all for now.
